Mont Saint Michel has ranked high on our list of places to visit for a while now, so it was, of course, the first major stop on our trip.
An abbey, city and island all in one, this UNESCO site is legendary. It’s also a tidal island – which means it’s technically only an island at high tide.
I’d seen a thousand pictures of this place, as I’m sure most people have, but seeing it in reality is much different. It’s kind of like something out of a Disney movie with its wonky shops and houses and quaint little streets and gardens. It’s also bigger than I thought it would be – and the abbey which sits high at the top of the city is absolutely enormous!
Expectations definitely met reality here and I’m so glad we stopped to explore Mont Saint Michel. Make sure you have you climbing head on if you go though, there’s A LOT of steps!
Classic tourist pic was needed obviously…
We found a great Aire about 10 minutes down the road from Mont Saint Michel where we parked up for a couple of days – Aire de Camping Car Beauvoir. €12.50 per 24 hours including hook up, Wi-Fi, waste and water. It’s completely flat, totally secure and it’s ideal for visiting Mont Saint Michel – it took us about 40 minutes to walk there and the pedestrian/cycle track is right along the canal.
